05:22 pm - Handy Advice for Italy- Pt 1.
Don't wear shorts unless you want a gaggle a teenage boys to yell, "COMPLIMENTI!!" at you repeatedly.

Or if it's really hot and you'd rather suffer through minor sexual harassment than wear long pants.

09:53 pm - My summer, or Surprise!
So...SURPRISE! I won't be in NH this summer but in NYC from May 22nd-August 11th working for Writers House (a literary agency) in SoHo and living in Brooklyn with my exceedingly charmful and totally awesome Wes.

He says, "Woah woah woah!" <--- Classic Wes.

Anyway- I'll be home whenever (prob. every third weekend or so) including the weekend of the 27th (fucking PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN on the 28th, right??!)

AND Come visit!

February 25th, 2007

12:01 pm - Hi, um, I'm Kat? Remember me?
Soooo the last time I updated LJ it was December 2nd. Now it's...February 24th. Holy cow.

So naturally a lot of stuff has happened since then. Let's see... in no particular order...

1. I stayed in NYC in January and worked at a literary agency. Whole experience was great- good food, 2 Broadway shows (Drowsy Chaperone and Spring Awakening, both amazing, very different from the other), and just a good time. Plus I wasn't taking a class/in Maine in f-ing really cold weather, which is always a plus. Whole experience a little tainted by now getting reprimanded by my "cousin"/literary agent cause I didn't send a thank you card fast enough (was going to mail it THAT DAY). Oh well, fuck that, I'm not letting that ruin the whole experience which was overall...fantastic!

2. I'm in a play! "Comedy of Errors" by Bill Shakespeare. March 15, 16, 17. You're all invited! My part is small and I go to school in central Maine, but if you love me a lot maybe you'll come. I'm playing Angelo---> Angela the goldsmith, and I'm trying to convince my director to let me die my hair platinum blonde. I've stopped asking for a grill cause I just don't think it's gonna happen. Anyway we have one real set of twins in the show! which is great because it's a classic 2 sets of twins thing : master and servant, master and servant and the master set are actually twins! As for the servant set...well one kid has double leads. He can't really complain. Except at the end when he has to talk to a prerecorded image of himself on a projection screen.

3. Wes and I are great, blah blah blah.

4. Last night I went to an awkward middle school sex party, which involved Never Have I Ever and bad 90s music from my MP3 player. And also a copious amount of vodka which was not really consumed by me.

5. Today I had rehearsal at 9. That is super early.

6. Yay nice weather!

7. We had a sledding event here and it was awesome.

8. HOLY SHIT This guy came to our school and regurgitated stuff and I thought it'd be awful but it was actually sort of cool. He regurgitated: a light bulb, rings, coins, a billiard ball, sugar (dry), butane gas, cigarette smoke, and dish detergent to name a few. It was awesome. Oh and four goldfish. I can't even describe how crazy it was. And then my committee who plans events and shit took him out to dinner and he did other crazy stuff.

:) love love.

07:45 pm
A quick entry from the box office before I start some homework. Or something.

So I was sick, got better, got a really bad sore throat, and now I'm sick again. Yay.

I'm writing a one-act for my final paper in Modern American Drama and I don't know where to take it. Blah. So far I have a kinda funny scene between a guy and a girl in a record store that I'm using for my dialogue assignment due Wednesday. I suppose I'll work on that now.

Blahskins mcgee.

07:23 pm - I am alive!
Travis noted that no one posts on here anymore. True dat. Hi Trav. I miss you too.

Right now I'm working in the box office of Colby's theater. I'm doing the job that a sign could do- telling people that the tickets for this weekend's show are going to be given away at the door.

The sad part?

There's a sign that says that, too. Teehee. This job is easy. I'm listening to bad satellite radio (aka a lot of Radio Disney) and wondering why my workload is sooooo light this week. And I'm happy that "Sexyback" just came on.

Life is v.v. good. Wes is so nice and I don't know why he's dating me. I have a stomachache from the beef stew I had at dinner. The biscuits were yummy.

Thanksgiving Break was v.v. good. Perfect balance of friend-time v. family-time except the complete lack of Sal-time. I got to watch some Melee, go in Ry's hot tub, and play a lot of super-competetive games of Pictionary. Not much has changed :) But missed Carla...Carla? Are you there? We think you're dead and we're all VERY sad about it.

I can't believe it's almost December.

Today I taught my 4th graders how to make thermometers with green water. It's kind of ridiculous that I'm doing a whole science unit with 4th graders for my campus job.

For anyone who hasn't heard the best 4th grade story of this year:

The Teacher: Ok, does anyone know what a molecule is?
Unruly Student: If I had to guess, I'd say a potion that makes you go wacky!

Teacher: (explains what a molecule is)
Unruly Student: Oh yeah. Yeah. I've seen that in a movie once.

HAHAHA. I had to walk away because I was about to laugh SO HARD. That's awesome. The class is SO MUCH BETTER than it was last year. All the kids seem so much younger. And so far no one's gotten gum in their hair that I've had to get out with peanut butter.

What's a good easy Christmas- excuse me, Holiday-treat that I can bring in for the kids that can't be smashed on the wall like the glass ornaments I so lovingly personalized for each kid last year? Hmmm... I would do cookies or something, but that's expensive (since you have to buy whole bottles of things you never think of buying, like vanilla extract and stuff) and they're into this new HEALTHY FOOD THING at school. Which actually makes for some very delicious class parties. And the transormation of one student into a cheese-iac.

Cheese IS really good.

My creative writing teacher thinks that my writing is really good. That's awesome. I feel like my identity crisis is beginning to resolve itself.

This is such a mash of thoughts. I doubt that ANYONE is reading this. Oh well.

This weekend we're running a dance for world Aids day called "Dance your Pants On". I like the image that it evokes. It was going to be "Dance your Pants Off" but some people thought that ....hmmm it's world aids day. Maybe not.

I felt sorta bummed the other night because John went all the way to England to see a friend but for some reason we can't get in touch and we live in the same town, ten minutes away. Plus I'm listening to an A Capella version of "Zoot Suit Riot" and remembering high school semis.

Wes and I watched "Spirited Away" the other night. It was SO GOOD. See it.

Peas out.

Am I close-minded for thinking that handicapped skiing sounds like a really bad idea?

I want to name my second fiction story "Trauma". I don't know what I want it to be about, though.

Sometimes it's fun to work really hard if you just decide that's what you're going to do in advance. She says as she updates LiveJournal. I did find a great new place to do work- the mac lab in the music library. Although the mac part is a definite drawback.

Back to my research paper on British Criticism of Italian Opera in London 1700-1850. Yeahhhh bitches.

I love Sal. and other people too, of course.

04:41 pm - blah homework
1. I like to list things.

2. The Starbursts that I rescued from the trash on the last day of camp are kinda stale, if that's a stage that Starbursts can go through.

3. My mom is awesome cause she sent me two novels about New York. And I'm going there! That's insane.

4. I have a lot of work that I'm not doing.

5. Tonight I'm getting free food at Margarita's cause my committee of the Student Programming Board is going out to dinner! That means: free drinks, free food, free desserts. That means - pina coladas, tacos, and a dessert that I'll take back and share with Wes.

6. Wes got a table tennis video game that is SO MUCH FUN. And if you'd like to be the tenth person to say, "You know, you have real ping pong tables at Colby," go ahead. But you can't judge if you haven't played it yet. Wes always plays as Liu Ping and I play as Haley. I've yet to win a match. Boo.

7. I like working in the box office. It's really easy and you get paid.

8. I'm working on a group project for one of my classes and the girl in my group is totally hopeless. When I asked the guy in my group if she was just dumb, he replied, "He's a geology major." Oh, geology at Colby. You are not well-regarded.

9. I feel as if I should have ten things on this list.

10. Blah bloo blah.

I feel so happy that I feel greedy.

I don't have an unmanageable amount of work today/this week/this semester.

I have a boyfriend, and he's liked me for 9 monthes. Holllly crap. That's so long/awesome.

My roommmate is totally kickass.

I won Settlers of Catan (don't ask, you'll be embarassed for me, I promise).

My guy friends play Mario Party with me even though I can't win any of the mini games and I pout when people take my stars.

My family = awesome.

That's all. Happy.

PS I'm not on drugs.

PPS Restore from saved draft is the best thing since Twizzler Pull and Peel. MM makes me think of/miss Ry's house.

09:05 pm - Homesick....
I'm feeling really, really homesick right now. Probably cause most people are home this weekend...blah. I'm getting paid 7 dollars an hour to sit in the box office during the Parent's Weekend show. I feel so crummy! It sucks, I was just looking at people's photos on facebook and missing everyone.

It's so odd- like, I love the people here, but it's so different. I would say, out of all the people I know here (like I said before, mostly boys), there are a couple that can definitely make me feel better tonight, and I'm hanging out with at least one of them tonight (the oh-so-awesome boyfriend).

Wes and I are a week from our 9 monthes.

Wow.

It doesn't help my sadness that I'm listening to a realllllly melancholy-ish Death Cab song (I'll follow you into the dark).

Blahhh.

02:18 pm - Kareoke
I was working at this kareoke event my committee put on last night and realizing: All my friends at Colby are boys.

Wes walked me there and stayed for a bit.
First Adrian and Justin showed up.
Then Mickleohb, Zach, and Reuben.
Next: Icebox, Rob, Steve, and Rand.
Then Dave...Wilfred...Adam...
Greg and Tom...
And I made a new friend, Reuben's roommate Dan who is awesome.

And Abe came too. She's a girl.

So over the course of the night, I saw 14 guy friends and made 1 new one. And one girl.

Maybe it's just easier to be friends with guys? It's just sort of funny because it's not really like that at home. Out of the 10 people I'd call my "best friends" (although I hate to define it like that), it's about half guys, half girls.

Huh. Just a thought.

11:34 pm - 10 Things going on with me
1. I absolutely despise when LJ deletes entries cause I press something weird.

2. I hate how "weird" is spelled.

3. I might if I'm lucky get an internship in NYC for JanPlan doing something literary-esque and get a chance to freeze my ass off somewhere a lot more fashionable than Central Maine.

4. My 673 page romance novel for Brit Romanticism and Italy is just getting interesting. Emily has finally left the castle. Yay. Not to spoil the plot for anyone who was just about to delve into "The Mysteries of Udolpho".

5. I still don't know how to underline things on LJ, no matter how many times Nol tells me.

6. I hate when people don't close the paranthetical in books, cause I spend the next five minutes flipping back and forth between pages to find the end paragraph.

7. I'm in Wes' room but he's not here- in the library for the second time in 10 minutes printing stuff out.

8. I like that Wes assumes I'm good at writing just because he loves me.

9. Wes' roommate just took my blood pressure for fun. I like him. Part of his lab instructions were written in a sort of enzyme code. Ew science.

10. I have a new job working at the box office for the theater here but I can't make either of the two training days that I suggested. That's just silly.

11. People faint a lot in the book I'm reading. I've never fainted. I sort of want to just to see what it would be like.

12. There are a lot of empty beer bottles on this desk. Wes is going to be 21 in a month and two days. Woah. I'm young.

04:06 pm - radio shout-outs and over loves
My friend Steve just dedicated a song to me on the Colby radio station, preceding it by saying, "This goes out to my good friend Kathleen B. I'm hoping it will cheer her up. If you see her you should give her a big hug. She's a cute little Polish brunette with glasses." That is so cute. Yay friends.

School is good. Life is good. Friends are good. Everything is good.

I'm 93 percent sure that I'll be spending my fall break at the UNH. UNHers, will you guys be around/willing to house this Polish brunette? It's the weekend of the 14/15, same as "Seussical"! YAY.

Love.

02:51 pm - Life at Colby So Far
My life at Colby so far has consisted of:

-cleaning my room and then making it messy again
-watching part of Rent and going to bed at 2
-going to the COOT rally and watching all the frosh seem chilled out rather than terrified/excited, the two emotions appropriate for the COOT rally. You'd realize why if you saw it. Think lots of upperclassmen chanting "Shit in the woods!" while dressed up as cavemen and zombie elopers. And a chainsaw. Yeah.
-meeting all the cool freshmen guys that live in my dorm, including a kid that didn't really know he was living in chem free
-giving this kid a tour of all the good and not good places to party at Colby
-realizing that I basically signed myself up to take this kid to parties with me. Oh well, he seems like the shit.
-making the same kid try a Moxie just to prove to Wes that they are total crap
-putting things up, watching them fall down, and putting them up again
-overdosing on Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk granola bars and Wheat Thins
-boring meetings and fun meetings

Bowling tonight with SPB! And I made Meaghan (la presidente) declare it dress-up bowling. Aka knee socks.

I'm ordering "Center Stage" and a sweet book about pirate myth/fact from Amazon. YES.

01:32 pm - College = love
All the frosh moved in today! That was exciting. The COOT leaders that helped us turned out to be really awesome. Every boy looks dorky, which is awesome. Definitely an advantage in chem free. I was trying to think of what guy friends I have at home that I wouldn't call dorky- and I couldn't think of one. Even the "cool" guys I know- Andrew F?- are cool in a very dorky way. The guy living next to me that I helped move in seems cool. I just like people who have red hair, anyway.

So Al- looks like it'll be a good year. Except some assholey sophomore and junior have Esther's old room in ML! They were put there as PUNISHMENT! That room is great. SO that blows. Roy is wicked pissed about it.

So I really like to get letters. If you don't know my address, post your email here and I'll send it to you. Send me yours, too! Beankb@aol.com. I've already written one and a half letters :)

Love to all!
